This is a high-impact role focused on refactoring, optimizing, and migrating critical applications to the AWS commercial cloud in support of NOAA’s cloud-first strategy.
This position is ideal for engineers with a strong full stack development background and experience working with AWS services in secure, high-availability environments. You will be contributing to the development and optimization of cloud-native applications that directly support National Weather Service’s's life-saving mission.

Job Description:
This is a high-impact role focused on refactoring, optimizing, and migrating critical applications to the AWS commercial cloud in support of NOAA’s cloud-first strategy.
This position is ideal for engineers with a strong full stack development background and experience working with AWS services in secure, high-availability environments. You will be contributing to the development and optimization of cloud-native applications that directly support National Weather Service’s's life-saving mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Refactor and optimize legacy applications for performance and scalability in the AWS cloud.
- Develop and maintain both back-end and front-end components of mission-critical applications.
- Ensure seamless integration with NOAA’s enterprise systems, including data lakes, APIs, and cloud-native platforms.
- Conduct application testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including software developers, cloud engineers, QA analysts, and government stakeholders.
- Support CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices for continuous deployment and monitoring.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in full stack development.
- Strong experience with at least one back-end language (e.g., Java, Python, Node.js) and one front-end framework (e.g., React, Angular).
- Experience working with AWS services such as EC2, Lambda, RDS, and S3.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and tools (e.g., Jira, Git).
- AWS Certified Developer or Solutions Architect certification.
- Prior experience supporting federal government cloud migration projects or systems integration efforts.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, GitOps, and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Jenkins, Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Collaborative mindset with strong communication skills to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
